I wonder if knowing some Wing Chun automatically makes one a fighter? How do you define a fighter, Ira?
For me, it's a person who may or may not know fighting techniques. It's a mental setup of a person who do what they set their mind to and get what they want, and stay true to their principles.   _________________ Не пытайся - делай.

Well, I was talking about a fighter in a physical way, the one who actually fights physical battles.
But you can always look broader and define fighter as not just someone doing bodily harm to another person. You may be a fighter without having knowledge of how to inflict pain - be it mental or physical variety. It's mostly the attitude. It's whether you give up or keep going no matter what, even if it seems to be a losing battle
So both definitions are correct.
Considering that all our physical activities affect our mental state, you can say that being ready to fight for your life in a physical fight, you won't be a coward in a mental one and give up without even trying.   _________________ What doesn't destroy me, makes me stronger. - F. Nietzshe

I think Sil Lum Tao is better than the standard morning exercises.
We have to practice the form every day.   |

The more we talk about the need to train more, the less we train/ it’s not you PaDre, unfortunately it’s the universal truth about people) still I should say, that after half an hour of practicing the First form your brain begin to work in a strange way. It’s like your cerebral hemispheres start moving and immediately you’ll find 1000 reasons to not to continue your practice. Well, don't know about morning exercises, but I find it quite refreshing and calming when I'm sleepy at work or when there's a lot going on in my life. I just switch everything off and do the Form. After that I may get back to whatever was bugging me and will see a new perspective on the matter.
Besides, I remember last winter, when my students decided to sabotage the lectures and I still had to wait for 15 minutes in a very cold room, I did the Form several times and it had magical effect: not only did I get calm, but also warm. What does it mean?
Siu Lim Tau is not much blocks and strikes.
If it is about aspects of each movements, I feel it is true...
But why so precise?
What is it 108 movies? From where it can be study?   |

I have reacent started to practice Siu Lim Tao nine times a day, and I prefer to do it during the morning, mainly because there usually is no disturbance then (most people are still sleeping), and I enjoy my own quiet time :) Somehow it feels like morning meditation I used to practise.
About the diffrencies between Sifus' Siu Lim Tao, do you think that if every Master and Grandmaster make changes on the form based on their own experiences on the moves, this would lead to all sort of diffrent ways to do the form? I don't have much experience on this, but I think that everything we are told is just one opinion of how things can be done. Not that I think I'd think I am taught in a wrong way, or that one way is better than the other, but that there are different ways to achieve things, and you need to choose one, and that the best option could differ from person to person. At least this is what it looks like in the starter-level -student eyes ;) but I like the idea that personal variation would not only make the form and all Wing Chun quite diverse between masters, but also offer possibilities to whole kind of individual adaptations.
