Dear forum mates, in the forum and in real life we communicate with words, not just by doing. So I wonder why do we speak, and what kind of different reasons can there be.

For me, speaking is part communication: It's information exchange, in situations where body language cannot be translated as efficiently as is needed.

It also helps to communicate, when there is no body language at all, like here in the forum Or what do you think?

Because we live in society and it's more efficient to say something than try to explain to someone what we want using other devices?

I'm not about the efficiency, it depends on how the spoken words are used The way I see it, speaking more like makes a surer pattern out of chaos, being just more detailed a tool.

In this case we speak to showcase ourselves - to show others what and who we are, by our intonations, accents, range of synonyms, "clever" words etc.

PS. I think talking adds chaos to our lives

It's like two whirlwinds are moving side by side without merging, but when they do merge, they can iether nullify each other or make each other stronger.

How do you think the reason for speaking affects the amount you speak?

I noticed that I had not spoke clearly enough with my mother, but now
that I talk to her about everyday stuff, we understand each other better.
Sometimes you need to speak up, and not just act on your own, if you want to
work on something together, I guess.

Yes, Irene, I agree. And also, the more sure you are about what you say, the less words you probably need to describe your idea.

And, bit beside the topic, making the talk important does not necessarily mean you talk more, but that you talk about it in a right time and place, I think.
