Dear forum mates,

sometimes to quite often you hear people using the statement "you know when you ... become mother yourself / get a fever (know that it's fever)" and so on. What does this statement mean and can I really know? Thank you for your thoughts in advance!

I think this statement comes forth when there is no way to describe a personal feeling in the situation. Everyone feels the fever and becoming a mother differently, even though the concent might be the same. But, for the same reason there really is no ultimate right 'feeling of fever' for instance.

How do you then know you have a fever? There are measurable signs as well, like high temperature, to difining the fever. But we also connect the feelings that cannot be measured, like tiredness, as part of the thing, and call it the 'feeling of fever'.

Like you said everyone experienecs things differently. And where one thing may taste nice to you may taste awful to me (great example with chewing gum from Finland Tanya tried to poison me with when we last met Wink )

You can't explain things to the person if they've never experienced it. You know what is fever because you've had it at some point and because you know that the collection of features (high temperature, headache whatever) adds up to a fever. But unless you experience it - these all are just words. It's like you can't explain to a child that something is cold/hot if they don't know the concept. And maybe all people feel cold differently?.. who knows?
