When I have only a little time to do a task, lets say a report for school, I have the greatest motivation to do it when there is only a little time left for the deadline.

Also, if I have a big dream for I have to work hard to achieve, I am less motivated to work for it, if I tell about it to anyone.

Do you know other things that have an effect on motivation? Thanks!

Very interesting points, Milla! For me, a due date and exact understanding what I want to do, are the best factors to get my task done. Of course, the question why I want to do something needs to be answered before any planning.

Why is free time-frame demotivating for you? Or rather, how can more time be used in a more productive way? Thank you!

For me, I am learning to spread my priorities over the time, and not plan time to priorities.

Again good guestions, Tetyana. My motivation is bound to time left to do a task, and therefore dead lines are important to me. One thing I used to do to motivate myself was to create my own deadlines, but then my timetable was just full of them, and working became too stiff and organized.

I don't yet have a strong inner motivation, that would drive me forward even without deadlines knocking on the door. So, keeping myself busy is the best kind of motivator I have at the moment.

What do you mean by spreading priorities over the time?

For example, when I am planning my day, I select things that are the most important and want to do them first, instead of counting how much time I am going to spend on each given activities.

That is a good way to do it, Tetyana, but how about things you can do only on a certain time, or that you cannot do right away?

What do you do, when the most important thing you want to do, you can do only at certain time, and you have other things to do before that. When you do things that are not as important first, does it affect the result for the thing you want to do the most? And, so, does the time of the day or the arrangement of activities affect the motivation?

For me at least the arrangement affects, and I rather do the things I most need to do first, where they ones I wanted to do, or things I just need to do. At mornings I have the most energy, and productivity. That is why I usually do cleaning in the morning. Very Happy

I have also noticed that when I work first on things I want to do, I feel great. But when I cannot, or I have to postpone it to be after a matter not as important, my motivation towards it declines.

Milla, you have asked a question and answered it, I have nothing more to add! Only perhaps the latest article on our Academy blog can clarify things a bit, and that's all to it Wink Wink Wink Wink

Yes, it sure had nice insights. Especially the one of how psychologists mainly focus on digging deep in the patients feelings, but not finding the motivation to act, is very true. Very Happy

For rest of the forum participants, you can find the article in the Academy blog here: http://ouluwingchun.wordpress.com/2013/08/22/how-to-develop-and-change-for-the-better/

So that's why I'm finding those excuses to do something else than work on things that affect my big goals.

I.e. house is in need of cleaning just the time I need to study maths. Wink

Very Happy Cleaning the house is also good to do sometimes. When you have clean surroundings, you can concentrate better, as you also have a clear mind. But still math, or any other task you wanted to do is there until you do it.
