Dear forum participant, here we may talk anything art related. But first of all, what do you consider to be art? Where the value of art comes from? Thank you very much!

To my point of view, art is something that expresses and brings forth emotions. It can be anything raging from a pot of flowers to a concert full of noice and people. There needs to be a message on it though, even though it would not have to emphasised. For instance music and painting always carry on the world view of the painter / mucician, so there always is something to hear or see

The value for a art comes when it is seen, looked at and - well - valued. Painting left in an attic might be a beauty, but if it has not been viewed by anyone, if it's not known, it does not have any value. So, for me, art has value only when it and the message it carries are shared to the world.

I think art is one of the ways to communicate. It's like a language; some know and understand, some think they do but need to learn and open up more. Like a language, it needs to be mastered in order to convey ideas to others, whichever the means of art are.

That nice way to put it Tanya If I follow the logic, in every art form the language is different: the 'words' and 'meanings' can be disquised in many ways, but in the best of arts you notice and more inmortantly feel what the art is about. To me, the languages are more about feelings than words

Nice work Irene, it's very detailed I can only guess it by the photo, but is the picture carved from black to white like it seems?

No, it's carved on plastic and then pressed down with black paint onto paper.

As the basis is ready, it can be stamped on paper, for example, and many times, and with a different color

To add to the conversation of value of art, I recently notice that we like to value things that are complete. Like a book with one page rippen of has no resell value anymore. It seems that we value more of complete things rather than incomplete. Or what do you think?

To me it depends on what I take as complete. One part of a three part symphony can have a beauty of it's own, as well as a detailed corner of a painting can. But beauty is not the same as value. If the original artists work has been altered, it's not original anymore, and in that respect the value has diminished. But it can have other values as well - depending on how one uses it and what wants to get out of it.

I think it depends on the situation - sometimes even a small part of something can bring peace or other good feelings. I'm pretty sure that even 1 page out of first bible would be immeasurable for some people It's what each individual feels towards art that defines its value.
