In his book called Go Rin No Sho (Book of Five Rings) Miyamoto Musashi argues that in order to know your path, you need to know other paths as well. He sais this is in order not to stray from the good path to similar but diffrent paths.

What do you think of this? Do you know what Wing Chun is even if you don't compare it with other schools? Thank you!

To my mind, it's the contradictions that make things as they are: light is only light when there is darkness around. So, there are principles of Wing Chun, because there is principles in other schools as well.

But, in order to know what makes Wing Chun Wing Chun, you would need to study how other Kung Fu schools work. That I would know only by practicing the art itself, and would take quite amount of time. Some basic knowledge can be gathered by searching information, and I think this is one of the way to understand Wing Chun principles.

Wing Chun is like a piano - it's the person who matters.
About contradictions - one way is to look back and to see where you came from and where you are right now. Has it moved you closer to what you want? Then continue. Has it not? Something needs to be changed. The key is, as always, aware actions

Tetyana, aren't the principles in Wing Chun the same from person to person? To me it seems that relaxation, balance and all the basics are the same, even though they can be applyed in different situations.
